Course summary

Economics is the study of choice and decision-making in a world with limited resources. It examines how societies allocate scarce resources to meet the needs and wants of their citizens. You will investigate both Micro and Macro-Economic topics during the two years. Micro topics include how markets work, why markets fail, market structures and labour markets. Macro topics will cover aggregative supply and demand, Fiscal and Monetary policy, financial markets and international trade and globalisation. There are three final exams for A Level Economics. Each exam is 2 hours – Paper 1 is the Microeconomic exam, Paper 2 is the Macroeconomics exam. The third exam is synoptic and brings together all the content from the two years of study. Each paper has a maximum of 80 marks & represents 33.3% of the final grade.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade 6 in GCSE English language or English literature and a GCSE grade 5 maths.

How you'll be assessed

There are three formal assessment points in Year 12 & two in Year 13. Also, there are additional subject assessments, at the discretion of the subject teacher/leader, to support student progress and monitoring
