During this 2 year course students will engage in development of themes, ideas, social issues or conceptual outcomes that are personal and original. Students will be guided through the course by the class teacher, but will have great independence when shaping and developing their visual portfolio. Students will be able to express their own ideas, opinions and emotions in many forms using many combinations of process, material, technique and media. They will develop skills of critical analysis and interpretation of their own outcomes and the work of others. The aim is to develop a very high standard of practical ability and confidence in talking about core concepts and elements of the visual arts, which will lead to direct entry onto degree courses in the visual arts and related disciplines. Students will have many opportunities to see art from first hand experiences and meet with artists on trips to galleries. Further studies and career opportunities: There are numerous career routes in the field of the visual arts. We prepare students to study Fine Art, Illustration, Digital Design, Animation, Graphic Design, Fashion, Fashion Marketing, Architecture and all design courses for which drawing is a necessary skill. Art enhances fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination, problem solving skills, lateral thinking, complex analysis and critical thinking skills. No matter what career you choose these attributes are highly sought after from Universities and employers.
