The course is designed to build up your knowledge and understanding from the principles of atomic structure and bonding to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of reactions and the factors that determine the rate and extent of chemical change. You will learn a range of useful laboratory skills including titration, organic synthesis and distillation, the use of gas syringes and pH meters and identification of unknown organic and inorganic compounds. You will also develop the problem-solving skills required to analyse mass spectra, Infrared spectra and NMR spectra. The Chemistry A-level also covers the practical application of many mathematical techniques and a broad range of chemical calculations are studied.
