The course covers the following areas of study: Contemporary studies - exploring a range of issues surrounding the modern sporting world; Anatomy and Physiology of the human body; Acquisition of Skill - focusing on how humans learn, coaching methods and learning environments; History of sport; Exercise physiology - how the body prepares itself and recovers from exercise; Sports psychology - study of mental preparation and how to avoid the undermining of peak physical condition by anxiety and negative psychological factors.
5 GCSE’s at grade 5+ (or Merit+ in equivalents). If the 5 passes does not include English (language or literature) and mathematics of grade 5+, students must, in addition, achieve at least a grade 4 in English (language or literature) and mathematics. In addition, a grade 4 or above in Combined Science GCSE. Grade 5 or above in PE GCSE.
Written examination, a formal analytical task and practical assessment of one chosen sporting activity.
