YEAR 12 COURSE SPECIFICATION Students will learn how to develop and apply their knowledge of safe practice through the awareness of correct alignment, technical accuracy and a healthy approach to training, including lifestyle of a dancer. They will critically engage in set works and areas of study through the introduction of the area of study American Musicals 1940 – 1975 and Rambert Dance Company 1966 – 2002. There will also be an opportunity to develop their technical and expressive skills through contemporary, jazz, ballet and Pilates classes. YEAR 13 COURSE SPECIFICATION Students will explore and develop movement content for the performance in a quartet and solo in the style of a specific practitioner, focusing on technical and expressive skills. Choreographic skills will be developed through research, selection, development and structuring of movement for group choreography, based on an exam question set by the exam board. Students will critically appreciate the two set works and areas of study through short answer and extended response practice.
4 GCSEs at or above grade 6 with a 5 or above in English language and they should have completed at least 8 GCSEs 5+ GCSE in dance
Component 1: Practical Exam (External examiner): Solo performance (20 marks) (2-3 Minutes) Performance in a quartet (20 marks) (3-4 Minutes) Group Choreography (40 marks) (3-4 Minutes) -Weighting (50%) Component 2: Written examination (externally assessed) Section A: Short answer questions and 1 essay on compulsory area of study. Section B: 2 Essays on set work and optional area study. 100 marks
