Course summary

The qualification is designed to help students: • Develop their interest in history and understand its intrinsic value and significance. • Understand different identities within society and appreciate aspects such as social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity. • Improve as effective and independent students and as critical and reflective thinkers. • Organize and communicate knowledge and understanding in different ways, arguing a case and reaching substantiated judgements. • Acquire an understanding of the nature of historical study, for example, that history is concerned with judgement based on available evidence and that historical judgements are provisional. A Level History has three units of study: Unit 1 Type of Study: Breadth Content: Industrialization and the People: Britain, c.1783-1885 Unit 2 Type of Study: Depth Content: Revolution and Dictatorship: Russia, 1917-1953 Unit 3 Type of Study: Historical investigation Content: The theme for research is determined by the student in consultation with the teacher.
