The course comprises three units – ➢ Exploring language: you will place language under the microscope, analysing how texts are crafted, and be challenged to create a range of original writing for different audiences. ➢ Dimensions of linguistic variation: you will uncover how children acquire language and explore how it has evolved from Anglo-Saxons to text speak. ➢ Independent language research: you will develop independent reading and research skills with a project based on a hot topic of your choice. To enrich your studies, you may have the opportunity to visit exhibitions and seminars such as The British Library as and when available.
Students with a GCSE average point score* of between 5.0 and 7.0 are strongly encouraged to take three A Level courses Grade 5 in GCSE English Literature or English Language.
20% independent language research project and 80% over two written exams.
