A Level Geology is critical to shaping the future of our planet. Geologists use their knowledge of the Earth’s evolution and the physical, chemical and biological process that shape our planet. Geologists are pioneers – who explore evidence of the past to make decisions today. For example, knowing how climate has changed in the past will equip you with the skills to accurately predict the climate of the future. Geologists are innovative - they find solutions to sustainable futures, such as capturing carbon dioxide and storing it underground. Geologists explore geohazards, such as explosive volcanoes, landslides and earthquakes, and the science behind predicting and mitigating their risk. In A level Geology, we will journey through geological time, looking at the evidence from the rocks and fossils to reconstruct the Earth’s history. Discover a bizarre range of organisms that evolved and became extinct 500 million years ago. Are we approaching a sixth mass extinction? To work this out we will investigate the causes of five mass extinctions and examine the evidence of how these catastrophic events moulded the evolution of life. Our fieldtrips will help bring theory to life as well as equipping you with valuable field skills. Our specialist Geology lab enables us to provide hands-on learning. So, come and join in the adventure and develop skills that will springboard to an exciting and diverse range of careers.
You will need to have GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including Double Science, Maths and English Language.
The course is assessed through a combination of examinations and practical assessments. Field trips and a residential trip will also give your skills for your practical endorsement component.
