Course summary
The A Level Fine Art course is a two year course and is structured as follows: Component 1 - Personal investigation. (No time limit / 96marks / 60% of overall mark.) Component 2 - Externally set task. Preparatory period & 15 hour exam. (96marks / 40% of overall mark) Students are required to conduct a practical personal investigation, into an idea, issue, concept or theme, supported by written material. The focus of the investigation must be identified independently and must lead to a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes. The investigation should be a coherent, in-depth study. Work will be sketchbook based in a range of media including 2D and 3D materials. Throughout the course students will: • Appreciate and learn about different styles of Art and examine cultural & historical influences. • Be creative and develop their own work. • Develop observational drawing skills and learn new painting techniques. • Work with a range of different media including, pencil, pastel, paint, clay, printmaking & computer manipulation.
