Sports Studies
Course summary
This is an ideal course for students interested in sports. The course has been developed in collaboration with employers and representatives from higher education and relevant professional bodies. In this way, we have ensured that content is up to date and includes the knowledge, understanding skills, and attributes required in the sports sector. Students follow and complete a series of exams, assignments, and control tasks which might include presentations, case studies, projects, practical tasks, and performance observation. Depending upon the pathway chosen, units may be typically represented by, for example: Principles of Anatomy and physiology in Sports, Sports Coaching, Psychology for Sports Performance, Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Development, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Analysis of Sports Performance, Practical Team/ Individual Sports, Risk Assessment in Sport. These are just a few of up to 30 units or more, which could be studied. Each unit lasts around 60 hours of lesson study, plus further study outside lesson time. This is a level 3 Award, equivalent to A level ( Single = 1 A level, Double = 2 A levels, Triple = Three A levels) and can be chosen alongside other A-level courses. It is a vocational, designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification, suitable for a career in sports, coaching, and fitness
