Course summary

History at A level is one of the most varied. It is designed to tie in closely with the skills of GCSE, and this course helps to put you in charge of your own learning and investigate issues of interest to you. History is one of the most highly valued subjects at university as you are required to develop a range of skills such as analysis, debate, essay writing and investigation. The course topics may include: • English Government and Church 1066-1216 • The Tudors - England 1485-1603 • Democracy and Dictatorships 1919-1963 • A personal study – 3000 to 4000 word essay based on an independent study or linked to topics studies as part of the A level You will analyse and assess a wide range of source material and historians’ interpretations. Discussions and debates are a feature of the young historian`s work at A level and you will be encouraged to form your own opinions. The personal study is a chance to put into practice all the skills learned during the course, and to gain an in-depth understanding of something that really interests you. You will learn how to evaluate historical documents and you will gain an insight into some of the problems presented by unreliable evidence.
