Mathematics
Course summary
AS and A level Mathematics courses further develop familiar mathematical topics learned at GCSE such as algebra, co-ordinate geometry, trigonometry, and probability. New topics introduced at A level include Arithmetic and Geometric sequences and series; differentiation and integration, together known as calculus; Mechanics to include projectile motion and Newton’s laws of motion; and statistical hypothesis testing using Binomial and Normal distribution functions. Students are expected to use technology such as graphical calculators, graphing software, and Large Data Set for use in the statistics section of A-level mathematics. There are a lot of different career opportunities in the fields of Banking, Computing, Technology, Politics, Engineering, and Physics. Mathematics is a core subject that supports many other subjects like physics and chemistry which are needed to do a course in engineering and medicine.
