Everyone in this country is affected by the Law in their daily lives. This course will help you to understand how the English legal system works, from where laws are made and the roles of people working in administration of the law such as magistrates, juries, lawyers and the police. By using a variety of learning activities, such as role play, class debates and internet research, you will have an excellent opportunity to develop an appreciation of the legal process. You will develop skills in applying the law to particular scenarios and playing the role of a solicitor giving advice to their client. You will gain an appreciation of where the legal system is not working well, and where reforms are needed. You will also develop a strong understanding of our democracy and how everyone can play a role in creating new laws.
You will need to have GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 2 grade 5s including English Language. Retaking GCSE Maths as as part of your programme is required if you do not have grade 4.
The course is assessed by a combination of controlled assessments and coursework for each of the 4 units you will complete.
