The qualification is an in-depth introduction to the study of art and design. Learners develop art and design projects and gain an understanding of the creative process. They study visual recording and communication, in areas such as drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture as well as critical analysis of artists and production skills to produce art and design outcomes. The qualification is designed for post-16 learners who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the creative industries.
5 GCSE’s at grades 4-9 including English AND BTEC Level 2 or GCSE Art OR a portfolio of artwork demonstrating skill.
Assessment will be at several stages throughout the year usually in line with the end of each term, which will include practical and written assignments. These are continually assessed and graded internally and will give students regular feedback as to their progress on the course and abilities to reach the targets set. The coursework culminates in a final project in the summer term of the 2nd year.
