Applied Science focuses on giving you an understanding of how science underpins modern life. Your studies will allow you to move on to a wide range of different careers. In class you will carry out practical tasks and also your own practical investigations to help you to apply your knowledge of science to real life situations. You will also have class discussions about topics currently in the news, which may have a huge impact on the world and the society in which we live. You will study in well-equipped laboratories with highly qualified staff, and we have a fantastic record of high achievement from our students. You will also able to go on various trips to a range of companies, enjoy fascinating talks from visiting speakers and do your own field work.
A previous Level 2-related qualification or higher GCSE results may allow direct entry to the BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Applied Science, ideally 5 grade C/GCSE grade 4 including Maths, English and a Science qualification.
A variety of assessment methods are used including practical experiments, presentations, booklets and essays.
