Physics is an intriguing and rewarding subject, ideal for those students who want to gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the universe. In the first year you will deepen your knowledge and understanding of mechanics and materials, electricity, waves, and thermal physics. You will meet new concepts in quantum phenomena. The second year covers a wide range of topics including: • The mechanics of circular motion and oscillations • Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields • Radioactivity and nuclear energy • Medical imaging and astrophysics Practical skills are developed within the content covered through key experimental investigations and are assessed through the Practical Endorsement and in the end of course exam papers.
At least 5 GCSEs graded 9-5. A grade 6-6 or above in Combined Science is essential, as well as a grade 6 in Maths. If taking separate sciences, one of the 6’s must be in Physics. It is highly recommended students take Maths A Level alongside this subject.
A Level Physics is assessed through written exams at the end of the second year.
