Course summary

Chemistry A is split into three modules and combined with the Practical Endorsement, constitutes the full A Level. The modules can be summarised as: Module 1: Physical chemistry Module 2: Inorganic chemistry Module 3: Organic chemistry Chemistry helps you to develop research, problem solving and analytical skills. It helps you to challenge ideas and show how you worked things out through logic and step-by-step reasoning. Chemistry also develops teamwork and communication skills, which is great for project management. Chemistry will help you get ahead in most STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) careersand more besides. It is essential for many degree level subjects including: Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry and Pharmacy.

Entry requirements

The standard entry criteria to study in the sixth form are a 9-4 in at least seven different subjects, including English and mathematics, which would usually be at grade 4 or above. To study Chemistry at A-level, you need to achieve a grade 6 or above at GCSE in either separate, applied or core science.
