Course summary

Historical events have shaped our society into what it is today. Studying A Level History can help you understand the value and significance of world and national events of the past. You will gain a deeper understanding of social, cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity; become skilled at asking questions, sometimes awkward ones; learn not to take everything at face value; develop empathy and understanding of the actions and achievements of others; learn to put over your point of view and argue it well; use evidence to draw conclusions and make judgments. You will be able to look beyond current events to see their underlying historical causes. History involves several transferable skills, and students often also take Geography or Sociology. History also supports other specialist subjects, like English Language, English Literature, Politics, and Philosophy. Course Content: - British Period Study & Enquiry: England 1485-1558: The Early Tudors with Enquiry (source-based study) on 1547-1558. - Non-British Period Study: Russia 1894-1941. - Thematic Study & Interpretations: Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992. - Topic-based essay: A self-researched essay on a topic of your choosing
