Course summary

Geography focuses on the study of issues which affect us all; from global warming to migration and conflict over land and resources. You will look at world patterns before trying to understand the human and scientific processes behind these patterns. We then explore the issues in depth. One of the key questions concerns equality (is everyone affected equally?) and who is responsible for solving these problems – should the superpowers do more? You will look at both high-tech solutions and more common-sense approaches and assess what difference these might make to the lives of people on our planet. A compulsory field trip will help you to prepare for your coursework.

Entry requirements

You will need to have GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including a grade 6 in Geography and a grade 5 in English Language. Retaking GCSE Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have grade 4.

How you'll be assessed

Geography is a 2-year, 'linear' qualifiaction with internal mock exams at the end of the first year. The course features exam papers in both Human and Physical Geography and a paper which focuses on bringing together your knowledge of the whole 2 years to look at some of the big issues of our times. There is also a 4000 word piece of coursework.
