The Centre of Excellence in Health and Social Care provides the tutor expertise and industry facilities to transform students into confident professionals, ready to take up a successful career in the health or care sectors, or progress to further professional study. The Centre is based at the Centre for Advanced Technical Studies, opposite Parsons Walk. Real work experience plays an integral role in our programmes. Tutors are highly trained professionals and have enjoyed successful careers in the sector. They have strong links with the NHS and private and local authority care providers with access to quality work placements. The Centre for Excellence is a collaboration between Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL), Edge Hill University, Wigan Council and the college. Facilities are for those on generalist health and social care programmes, as well as specialist courses such as the T Level in Health aimed at future adult and mental health nurses, and healthcare professionals. The newly refurbished Centre offers: • Clinical Skills Wards to simulate real working environments • Manual handling suite • Specialist science labs • Health and Social Care Careers hub • Guest speaker programme featuring health industry specialists • Annual health careers events
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent including English or Maths and Science, and an Enhanced DBS certificate.
