The contemporary world is filled with messages from interconnected industries known as “the media,” understanding and critically analysing these messages is essential for navigating our complex reality. Media Studies is an academic discipline that delves into the content, history, and cultural impact of various media forms. By examining the relationship between text, audience, and industry, you will consider the ideologies embedded within media products and then impact these have on our lives. Through the course, you will develop invaluable skills in analysis, critical thinking, and media literacy, gaining awareness of the tools that media employ to communicate with us. From film and television to radio, gaming, magazines, adverts, music videos, news, and the online realm, you will explore a diverse range of media forms that shape our society. QMC’s Media Studies A Level course serves as an excellent introduction to this dynamic field, allowing you to uncover the importance of media products and their audiences. Many of our students have pursued rewarding careers in media-related fields such as film and television production, journalism, and marketing/public relations.
To study this course, 5 or more GCSEs graded 4/5 or above including English Language, and ideally, Maths is required. You do not need to have studied Media Studies at GCSE level to enrol in this course; all you need is a curious mind and a drive to delve deeper into the world of media.
