Course summary

Chemistry is everywhere; the world around us is filled with materials that have been discovered, developed and tested by chemists: medicines, foods, fuels, plastics, fertilisers and fabrics. The course is split into six units : - One unit is practical based and there are five theory units covering the three main branches of Chemistry; organic, inorganic and physical. -The two units studied in Year 13 build on the knowledge and skills acquired in the previous year. Chemistry is a practical subject and the development of practical skills is fundamental to understanding the nature of chemistry. The practical endorsement is based on the successful completion of a minimum of 12 activities which focus on key techniques and practical competencies.
