Course summary

Technical computing skills are a specialist and highly sought-after skill set in many areas of business. This course offers an excellent starting point for many computing-related careers including programming and software engineering. On completion of the course, students will have developed excellent problem-solving skills, a knowledge of programming and an in-depth understanding of how computers work from both a hardware and software perspective.

Entry requirements

• At least a grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics and a grade 5 in GCSE English Language. • Students who do not have a previous qualification in Computer Science will be required to demonstrate a keen interest in the subject outside of the classroom.

How you'll be assessed

The basis of this course is computation, both in theory and practice. Computer Science is an academic subject that lends itself to the more technically-minded student. The course will be divided into theory and practical sessions. All lessons will take place in ICT rooms. For practical lessons, you will learn through demonstrations and examples combined with individual or small group exercises. Theory lessons include both individual research and group work. You will be asked to complete short tasks and test preparation in your own time. The course consists of 3 components: • Computer Systems • Algorithms and Programming • Programming Project
