This course is suitable for individuals who wish to pursue a career in the animal care industry. It will help you find employment or progress to a Level 3 course. During this Animal Care course, you will undertake theory-based lessons, along with some practical activities related to the correct care and husbandry of a large range of animals. This qualification includes the following modules: • Maintain animal accommodation • Animal welfare • Animal biology and health • Animal behaviour and handling • Work experience The course will be based at The Broadway campus for tuition and tutorial, work experience is at Dudley Zoo, Wild Zoo, Brockswood animal sanctuary and Sedgley adventure centre.
For entry onto this qualification, learners must have achieved three GCSEs at Grade 3 and a Grade 3 in GCSE English and preferably science.
The assessments for this qualification are through assignments set during the year and externally set exams. These assignments can involve the demonstration of knowledge and practical skills. Part of the course will involve a 100 hour placement at a work-based site that deals with animals.
