Students who study a foreign language in 6th form will develop their linguistic skills alongside their understanding of the culture and society of countries where French / Spanish is spoken. A-level French is a linear course; two years of study culminating in 3 final exams. Students study technological and social change, artistic culture, music and cinema, and learn about political engagement. Students also explore the influence of the past on present-day communities where the target language is spoken. WHAT WILL YOU STUDY? • Social issues and trends • Political and artistic culture • Grammar • Works: Literary texts and films International business, politics, tourism, journalism, law, medicine, the armed forces, teaching, translating, interpreting; in fact almost everything!
Students who don’t achieve a grade 4 or equivalent in GCSE English and maths must continue to study them in the 6th form.
Assessment tasks will be varied and cover listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students will also complete an individual research project.
