Spanish is spoken widely in South America and the Spanish-speaking countries are exciting and culturally diverse. Linguists are in high demand in the current climate, and in-depth knowledge and understanding of language and culture are valuable assets. What will I learn? Theme 1: Aspects of Hispanic society Theme 1 is set in the context of Spain only. • Los valores tradicionales y modernos • El ciberespacio • La igualdad de los derechos Theme 2: Artistic culture in the Hispanic world Theme 2 is set in the context of Spanish-speaking countries and communities. • La influencia de los ídolos • La identidad regional en España • El patriomonio cultural Study of a work: FILM: Laberinto del Fauno by Guillermo del Toro Theme 3: Multiculturalism in Hispanic society Theme 3 is set in the context of Spanish-speaking countries and communities. • La inmigración • El racismo • La convivencia y la integración Theme 4: Aspects of political life in the Hispanic world Theme 4 is set in the context of Spanish-speaking countries and communities. • Jóvenes de hoy, ciudadanos de mañana • Monarquías y dictaduras • Movimientos sociales Study of a work: PLAY: La Casa de Bernarda Alba
At least 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including Maths and English Language. This can include up to 2 BTEC level 2’s at Merit of above. Entry on Pathway 1 will allow students to choose up to 4 courses from the full range of A Levels & Diplomas. A condition of the course is to have completed Higher Level papers and to have gained at least a Grade 7 at GCSE in the foreign language you wish to study. We will consider students with a Grade 6 on an individual basis.
