Course summary

The topics in Modern Foreign Languages are chosen to appeal to young people. Our aim is to stimulate interest and discussion about issues and trends related to the target language-speaking countries and communities. These issues are varied and may be social, political, intellectual, and/or artistic in nature, but will always aim to develop a deeper understanding of the speakers’ cultures. You will of course be working with up-to-date materials including newspaper articles, magazines, and online publications. A structured program of grammar runs throughout the course, to enable you to produce accurate written and spoken language. In all three languages literature and film are key features of the A level. These are chosen from a list of set texts including both classic and modern works. German set texts include: Kafka die Verwandlng, Dürrenmatt der Besuch der alten Dame, Schlink der Vorleser Films: Goodbye Lenin, Lola rennt, Das Leben der Anderen
