The level 3 extended certificate gives a coherent introduction to the study of art and design at this level. Learners develop art and design projects and gain an understanding of the creative process. They study visual recording and communication, critical analysis and production skills to produce art and design outcomes. Learners will explore a range of disciplines including 2D, 3D and digital media. They will become confident in exhibiting work and will work in a studio-like environment to build a sense of collaboration. Over 2 years learners will study and complete 4 units: • Unit 1 - Visual recording (externally assessed) • Unit 2 - Critical and Contextual Studies (externally assessed) • Unit 3 - The Creative Process (internally assessed) • Unit 12 - Fine Art Materials, techniques and Processes (internally assessed) The course offers the opportunity for learners to engage with live briefs and will encourage students to develop key research skills that can be transferred into other areas of study. Within the units studied, students will have the opportunities to delve into themes and concepts that they are enthused and inspired by.
You must have at least a BTEC Level 2 Merit in Art and Design or a GCSE grade 5 in Art and Design to be considered for this course.
Students will be assessed through a combination of sketchbooks, digital blog and portfolio submissions. 2 units are marked internally and 2 are marked externally by the exam board.
