Electricians fit and repair electrical circuits and wiring in people’s homes and businesses. They also install and maintain electrical equipment, instruments, and machinery. The Levels 1 and 2 courses include these elements: working effectively and safely in the electrotechnical environment; principles of electrotechnology; application of health, safety, and electrical principles; and installation (buildings and structures). The practical assignments cover measuring and recording single-phase and three-phase voltages and currents, and completing an electrical installation. You will practice interview techniques, study rights, and responsibilities at work. As the core content, you will develop a general understanding of the following topics relating to the construction industry: health and safety; science principles; design principles; the built environment; sustainability principles; measurement principles; building technology principles; construction information and data principles; relationship management; digital technology; commercial/business principles; building services engineering systems; maintenance principles; tools equipment and materials. You will also study several specific electrotechnical topics within the industry specialism Electrotechnical Engineering.
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent including Maths, Science, and/or the Electrical Installation Level 1 qualification.
You will complete an online, multiple choice examination and two practical assignments. At Level 3 you will also complete an exam.
