Course summary

Having a secure understanding of physics will mean that you have a secure understanding of the world in which we live. You will develop your problem solving skills as well as learn the answers to some big questions. What is the large hadron collider doing and can you calculate the point at which an aeroplane can no longer abort take off? WHAT WILL YOU STUDY? • Particles, quantum phenomena and electricity • Mechanics, materials and waves • Fields and further mechanics • Astrophysics Investigative skills analysis A-level physics opens doors to a wide range of degree courses such as physics, astrophysics, engineering, architecture and medical physics. To have studied A-level physics also demonstrates your ability to problem solve which is desirable when applying for even non-physics based courses.

Entry requirements

Students who don’t achieve a grade 4 or equivalent in GCSE English and maths must continue to study them in the 6th form.
