Course summary

Students who study Geography possess an extremely marketable and sought-after range of knowledge and understanding of the world around them. The A level course focuses on the interrelationships between people and their varied environments and the questions, issues and problems which arise from these relationships. Geographers develop enquiry, decision making, fieldwork and research skills which will prepare them well for Higher Education courses or a wide range of career choices. They also learn to appreciate the significance of human values in decision making and to think critically on a range of issues. Students that have studied geography have gone onto a range of courses at university including: Masters in Geography and Geology; Environmental Science and Education with Geography. Students will attend a compulsory residential field visit to a coastal area and day visits to local town centres in year 12. The Humanities Department lead the “Learning outside the Classroom Programme”, which includes the Ski Academy and we also have a strong partnership with the Outward Bound Trust. The Department also lead the Academy Expeditions which in the past have been to Ethiopia and Nepal.
