Product Design is a vibrant and dynamic subject that encourages students to take a broad view of design and technology. It helps develop students’ capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. The subject requires initiative, creativity and determination, but, most importantly problem, solving and the desire to develop better solutions for consumers. Students who have studied Product Design have gone on to a range of destinations after Sixth Form such as studying Aeronautical Engineering at Southampton University or to higher level apprenticeships at Jaguar Land Rover and National Rail. Students will have the opportunity to visit various companies to experience the design and manufacture process including Jaguar Land Rover, Morgan Motors and Makes UK. Students also visit the Birmingham School of Jewellery for a metal workshop. We also invite designers to provide internal workshops for students. Additional assistance with coursework is offered after school during Session 3 and during independent learning sessions. Students can spend this time working on their major project work or other independent projects.
