They will prepare students for their choice of career in both the world of work and Higher Education. You Gov research shows that 62% of large companies have recruited employees with BTEC qualifications. BTEC Nationals are accepted by over 150 UK universities and higher education institutes for relevant degree programmes. Students will have the opportunity to visit national and local businesses to contextualise their learning and apply their findings to their portfolio work. These visits enable students to investigate the practical application of theories they learn in the classroom in a range of vocational contexts. We expect all students to demonstrate a high level of motivation and have the capacity for hard work. Sixth Form work is demanding, and students are expected to take increased responsibility for their own learning. BTEC Business assesses a wide range of business topics and students are expected to take an active interest in current business affairs, applying the theoretical principles and models discussed in the classroom and contextualising with application to the modern business environment. Students are required to conduct primary research with a number of businesses to successfully complete the course.
• 4 GCSEs (Grades 9 – 4) or equivalent • Level 2 BTEC pass (including level 2 in the Component 3 exam), Grade 4 if Business studied previously • Grade 4 in GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level. Units of Study: • Exploring Business (Internally assessed portfolio) • Developing a Marketing Campaign (Externally assessed supervised case study) • Personal and Business Finance (Externally assessed by exam) • Customer Service (Internally assessed portfolio)
