If you’d like to study science at university - or want a stepping stone to a scientific career - our courses will give you the knowledge and practical skills to succeed. Depending on your chosen course, you’ll immerse yourself in fascinating topics such as microbiology, organic chemistry and astrophysics. You’ll get hands-on in our high-spec labs, learning practical techniques and conducting your own experiments - and explore different career options. Our Science A Level pathway combinations include: A Level Physics and A Level Maths combined with BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate Applied Science A Level Biology and A Level Chemistry combined with BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate Applied Science During the interview process we will assess which A Level combination will be most suitable based on predicted grades and future aspirations. This pathway provides the practical skills of a BTEC programme alongside the benefits of an A Level programme. The BTEC units have been chosen to complement the A Level course content, reinforcing learning with practical investigations and coursework. The A Level programme will consist of eight topics over two years. There will be three exams covering all topics at the end of the second year. You will also be assessed on your practical skills in twelve formally assessed practical activities during the two years.
It is expected that applicants will have English and maths at grades 5-9 (A*-C) and a science GCSE at grades 6-9 (A*-B). Additional GCSE results at grades 5-9 will be an advantage.
The courses are a combination of assessed written work, practical project assessments and final dated examinations at the end of the second year of study.
