Course summary

There are more than 350 different roles in health and social care - from nursing and midwifery, to social work and speech therapy. Our courses are your first step to working in this rewarding sector. You’ll develop the professional skills you need to care for people with compassion and dignity. You could then go directly into employment - for example, as a care worker - or use your course as a springboard to further specialist study for roles in nursing, midwifery and much more. The course combines both academic and practical aspects related to health and social care and can enable successful students to progress to the Higher National Certificate or related university degree programmes. It is made up of core and optional units at each stage of the qualification and equivalent to 3 A Levels. 200 mandatory placement hours in a suitable health and social care setting are also required. Course topics include: - Equality diversity and rights in health and social care - Developing effective communication in health and social care - Anatomy and physiology in health and social care

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades C / GCSE grade 4 or above including English Language/Literature and/or Maths, or a Level 2 related qualification (minimum Extended Diploma) at overall Merit grade. An internal entry assessment to support the above entry requirements. Successful completion of a DBS. Health and social care placements may require evidence of vaccination status following new government guidance. Positive reference from your college/school tutor.

How you'll be assessed

A range of methods of assessment including assignments, reports, essays, presentations, three exams and practical observations. Placement will also have a set of competencies which will need to be achieved.
