Course summary

The vocational course is available to any student, whether or not you have studied BTEC Applied Science previously. BTECs are qualifications that are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. They give learners the knowledge, understanding, and skills that they need to prepare them for employment. The aims of the course are for students to develop experimental, analytical, and evaluative skills through practical work. Learners will complete several assignments in which their analytical and evaluation skills will be assessed. Learners will develop personal skills in the areas of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. They will also develop skills in: • Planning, organizing, and initiative skills. • Independent, teamwork, and communicative skills. • Decision-making and problem-solving. • Analytical, evaluative, and critical thinking skills. • Time management and practical skills A qualification in Applied Science provides students with a wide range of transferable skills, which are important in many career fields. This qualification is ideal for learners who want to progress to university or into employment. Employment opportunities include a wide range of science-based jobs and also those within the legal, civil, and police services. Entry requirements

4 GCSEs 9-4 (or equivalent), including minimum grade 5 in English & Maths and minimum grade 5 in Combined Science GCSE.

How you'll be assessed

There are exams now in place on this course as well as controlled tasks that are assessed externally. Assessment is also made up of coursework. You will produce a portfolio of evidence showing that you have met the assessment objectives. This will be evidenced through practical assignments, oral presentations/ practical demonstrations, written reports, and project work. Submission deadlines are set throughout the year and must be adhered to.
