Course summary

The aims of the course are: • To promote an enjoyment of and an interest in music as a performer, as a composer and as an audience member. • To extend the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to communicate through music. • To encourage the appreciation of social, historical and cultural influences in music. To develop imagination, creativity, individual and ensemble skills. An A Level in Music can lead to a range of different degree courses. An obvious pathway would be a BA (hons) or BMus (hons) degree at a university or specialist Music Conservatoire. However, alternative pathways can include Arts Management, Acoustics, Music Therapy as well as degree pathways that specialise in Radio/TV and music production careers. Past A Level students have gone on to study Logistics, Civil Engineering, Marine Biology and Mathematics at university, as well as Teacher Training, Instrumental Repair and Train Driver training. Music develops your physical dexterity, communication skills, self-management, critical reflection and collaborative skills.
