The A Level Art course is a natural progression from GCSE Art and Design. Students will learn to develop their own responses as their skills and knowledge improve, and develop the ability to evaluate their work through tutorials. Students will be encouraged to work independently using agreed individual action plans. The first year of the course prepares students for the 2 units in year 13. This year is spent honing their art skills and technique’s as well as learning the valuable skill of sketch - booking. Students complete 2 units; one personal investigation and one externally set assignment. Candidates develop work through a personal investigation in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing. For the exam, candidates choose one of eight exciting assignments and produce preliminary work over a month long period. At the end of the lead in period students must complete 15 hours of unaided but supervised work
• To enter Sixth Form you require 5 GCSE’s Grade 4 and above, including English or Maths. • For students who typically attain 9-5 grades at GCSE. • Grade 5 in Art or portfolio of work.
