Course summary
History A Level is the course to do if you enjoy learning about the past. If you are good at debating and challenging other people’s ideas then you should choose this course. You will learn to form reasoned and justified arguments and to think critically about the past and other people’s ideas. The two years will be divided into four units. • Unit 1: Early Tudors 1485-1558 • Unit 2: Italy 1896-1943 • Unit 3: Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992 • Unit 4: Non-examined assessment: Topic-based essay Lessons are taught using a variety of methods including independent reading, presentations, debate, seminar-style discussions, analyzing other historians’ works, and creative modeling or role play. The expectations are extremely high so you must be prepared to carry out extra reading and consistently contribute to lesson discussions.
