Course summary

Students follow the OCR A specification which is challenging but very interesting. If you have an interest in the past and an enquiring mind, history is the subject for you. Students are able to study significant events, individuals and issues from the 15th, 16th and 20th Centuries. Students will study: Churchill 1920·45: • His reactions to the problems of post war Britain • His reputation as a great wartime politician • His international diplomacy during the Second World War The Cold War in Europe 1945 to the 1990's: • Origins and development • The role of Germany • The Soviet Union's control of Eastern Europe • The end of the war • The collapse of the Soviet Union Nazi German and the Holocaust: • The nature of Nazi government, its impact on Germany and the extent of its racial aims and policies. this is an independent research essay and students will be doing a 4,000 word essay as a controlled assessment piece. They will be assessing the view that the Holocaust was a premeditated plan by Hitler. Rebellion and Disorder under the Tudors 1485·1603: • The nature and extent of rebellion and disorder in England and Ireland. • The study of specific revolts and rebellions including: Pilgrimage of Grace, Kett and Essex.
