Business is one of the most useful subjects you can study at college. The average person spends roughly 45 years in employment so having an understanding of the business world is vital. This course provides an insight into how businesses operate; examining those involved in running a business, how they are organised and financed and the importance of effective business communication. The Extended Diploma is a two-year course. The first year is equivalent to one A Level (Foundation Diploma) and successful completion of the first year will allow progression to Year 2 to complete a total of three A Level equivalents graded from Pass to Distinction*. The course is practical and work-related, where the assessment is based on investigating real life businesses. You will have to research different companies using a variety of methods, such as the Internet, or conducting interviews with business owners.
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or C or above including Maths AND English, or a Merit in a Level 2 qualification and Maths AND English GCSE at grade 4 or C or above. Alternative relevant qualifications will also be considered. You will have a positive school or college reference with good levels of attendance and punctuality.
A variety of methods are used to assess your progress including external examinations, individual and group presentations, case studies, assignments, projects, work based assignments, developing learning resources, and display work. You will achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each module according to how well you cover the learning outcomes specified.
