Fine Art is an exciting course that will challenge your creativity, technical ability and conceptual knowledge. It is a broad course that allows you to develop as an artist and a creative thinker. You will learn how to use a wide range of traditional and contemporary media and will also develop your critical thinking skills through discussions, analysis of works and a range of interests. You start with studio-based sessions exploring a wide range of disciplines, covering both traditional media and contemporary methods, giving you the chance to explore techniques such printmaking, digital photography, illustration, sculpture, painting and drawing. Through a series of projects, you will gain autonomy in the direction of your work, leading to your self-directed Personal Investigation coursework and the AQA Externally Set Assignment.
GCSE grade 5/BTEC Merit in Art or another visual arts subject. You will be expected to be able to show a portfolio of your work.
This course is 100% coursework based. Your final grade is based on your Personal Investigation worth 60% of your grade, and your Externally Set Assignment which is worth 40%. Throughout the course, interim assessment is done in many ways, including project reviews, peer marking, constructive criticism, formal written feedback, self-assessment, mid- and final project numerical marking.
