Film Studies is a subject that, by its nature, requires candidates to consider individual, moral, ethical, social, cultural and contemporary issues. The course provides a framework for exploration of such issues and includes specific content through which students may address these issues. This course will offer a vocational as well as academic route into employment or further education. Qualifications in Film Studies are acceptable as an entry to many different careers or courses. These may include: Marketing, Journalism, Education, Film Production, Media Studies, Creative Writing and Social Sciences. All courses at Walsall Academy are designed to provide academic and vocational experiences. They will prepare students for their choice of career in both the world of work and Higher Education. Students attend the BFI’s annual screenings of films at local repertoire cinemas pertinent to study. Students have gained work experience of a functioning studio at Sky TV in London. We have also visited the Bradford Media Museum, West Yorkshire and Warner Bros Studios in London. The English and Film department also provides extra-curricular activities, such as dystopian literature and film club, which engage students in learning beyond the confines of their subjects.
