Course summary

Studying an advanced level qualification in computer science at Shireland Sixth Form will provide you with the necessary knowledge, understanding and applications of essential elements of computer technology. It will prepare you for studying computer science at degree level, which will in turn prepare you for a successful career in one of the many computing related fields. Taking advanced level computer science at Shireland Sixth Form means you will be taught by enthusiastic computer scientists with a true passion for the subject. Entry requirements

Level 5 or higher in five separate subjects at GCSE including English and at least a 6 in GCSE Mathematics. Students are expected to achieve a minimum of grade 5 or above at GCSE to be considered for A Level and BTEC courses.

How you'll be assessed

A Level computer science is assessed with 2 examinations at the end of the year and a computer programming project. Each examination makes up 40% of the final year grade, with the programming project being 20% of the final grade.
