The opportunities for students of Health and Social Care are wide ranging. BTEC level 3 diploma or subsidiary courses offer a wide-ranging insight into all areas of health, social, education and public service opportunities. Qualifications in Health and Social Care are acceptable as an entry to many different careers. These may include: • Nursing • Midwifery • Teaching • Social Work • Pediatric Nursing • Health Care Assistant • Public Services As part of this subject you will see visiting speakers and have an opportunity to take part in visits to many different Health and Social Care settings. You will be given an opportunity to speak to University staff about popular courses, such as nursing. You will be offered Session 3 support throughout the course. We also offer UCAS personal statement writing support and interview practice support. You will complete an extended work placement during the two years in the Sixth Form in a care setting when studying the Diploma. All units above including: • Unit 4 – Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care • Unit 6 – Work Experience in Health and Social Care* • Unit 7 – Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care • Unit 8 – Promoting Public Health We expect all students to demonstrate a high level of motivation and have the capacity for hard work. Sixth Form work is demanding, and students are expected to take increased responsibility for their own learning through supported self-study courses. Excellent attendance is vital if students are to benefit from the courses.
• 4 GCSEs (Grades 9 – 4) or equivalent • Grade 4 in GCSE Science • Grade 4 in GCSE English • No formal qualification in Health and Social Care is required
All students studying the diploma course will complete 100 hours work related placement.
