This course is particularly aimed at able students with a strong interest in pursuing mathematical subjects after A levels such as engineering, science, computing or technology, as well as mathematics itself. If you're planning to study A level maths and would like to broaden and deepen your mathematical knowledge and skills, then taking further maths alongside A level maths may be for you. Further maths is a facilitating subject which means it will also prepare you for a wide range of higher education subjects. Some universities may require further maths for entry to maths degree courses. It will give you a range of transferable skills including logical reasoning and problem solving that are useful in a range of careers. You'll learn through classroom-based teaching. There will be visits to university maths departments and the opportunity to take part in maths competitions and university guest lectures. There will be careers talks from professionals using their maths skills in the workplace and higher education maths experts.
5 GCSEs at grade 4+ and a grade 5 or above in Maths GCSE.
Assessment is through final examination at the end of the course. There will be 3 exam papers each of 2 hours duration. Exams will comprise short, single-mark questions to multi-step problems.
