Suitable for students interested in a career in barbering/men's hairdressing. Units include: • advising and consulting clients • creating basic outlines and detailing in hair • clipper maintenance • cutting facial hair to shape using basic techniques • cutting men’s hair using basic techniques • drying and finishing men’s hair • hair tonics • health, safety and hygiene • shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp. You are encouraged and supported to take part in local and national competitions, including World Skills. Alongside valuable work experience placements, you will also take part in a variety of voluntary and charitable activities, including Nurses Day at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Victorious Festival and community events.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English.
Throughout the course, you will be assessed regularly against the standards set by the examining body. These assessments will be pre-arranged. You will be given written assignments to complete throughout the programme, as well as online exams. Each level covers an area of competence at a level that places it on a national framework. The framework makes qualifications easier to understand and shows how people can progress through the system.
