Learners taking this qualification will study three mandatory units: • Unit 1: Practical Music Theory and Harmony - pupils explore and upskill their knowledge of theory and use this to compose and arrange score sheets for a variety of different musical styles. • Unit 2: Professional Practice in the Music Industry- students explore a specific scenario where they take on the role of organizing and leading an event in the music industry such as a festival like Glastonbury. • Unit 3: Ensemble Music Performance - students perform set music create their stylistic versions and take part in a final showcase performance at the end of year 13. Learners choose one optional unit that links to their strengths. These have been designed to support progression to more specialist music courses in higher education and to link with relevant occupational areas, such as composing music, improving music, or solo performance.
5 GCSEs at grades 4-9 including English. Although not essential, having studied the Level 2 Music Practice tech award would be advantageous. Musical instrument ability equivalent to grade 3 performance standard or higher is essential and an audition with the music team to showcase this.

Internal assessments: Most units are internally assessed and subject to external standards verification. This means that we set and assess the assignments that provide the final summative assessment of each unit, using the examples and support that Pearson provides. Learners could be given opportunities to: • Write up the findings of their research • Use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations • Carry out projects for which they have a choice over the direction and outcomes • Demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate instruments and techniques.
