This course will enable you to develop an understanding of the way society functions and the way it shapes people’s ideas, social behaviour and culture. Sociology attempts to explain human behaviour by studying how the social groups to which people belong, influence their actions and beliefs. We look at Families and Households, Education, Beliefs and Crime and Deviance. We try to answer some of the questions below: • Why are fewer people getting married in today’s society? • Why do children from poorer families tend to do less well at school? • Why are men more criminal than women? • What makes someone join a religious cult? • Does prison work?
• To enter Sixth Form you require 5 GCSE’s Grade 4 and above, including English or Maths. • For students who typically attain 9-5 grades at GCSE. • Grade 5 in English Language.
Three 2hr exams each worth 33% of your grade.
