Course summary

Music is the study of performance, composition and aural listening and analysis of musical scores. It is about interpreting what composers have written into your own expressive performance, learning how to create your own music and explore harmony, tonality and melody. It is also about learning to understand all the complex elements that go into the creation of a successful piece of music.

Entry requirements

GCSE Maths min. Requirement 5 GCSE English Lang min. requirement 5 Music GCSE grade 6. Grade 5 theory and instrument. At least three other GCSEs at Grade 5 or better

How you'll be assessed

Performance: One solo (acoustic/music technology) and one ensemble, worth 35%. Composition: One piece to a brief and one piece of free composition worth 25%. Appraising: A 2 hour 30 minute written exam comprising of listening work, analysis work and essay writing. Worth 40%.
